How the Calculation Works
The Japanese lump-sum withdrawal payment calculation is based on your average monthly standard remuneration, your insured period, and a fixed multiplier.
The Formula
Lump-sum Withdrawal Payment = Your Average Monthly Standard Remuneration × Multiplier (based on your insured period)
Multipliers by Insured Period
Insured Period | Number used for payment rate calculation | Multiplier |
---|---|---|
6-11 months | 6 | 0.5 |
12-17 months | 12 | 1.1 |
18-23 months | 18 | 1.6 |
24-29 months | 24 | 2.2 |
30-35 months | 30 | 2.7 |
36-41 months | 36 | 3.3 |
42-47 months | 42 | 3.8 |
48-53 months | 48 | 4.4 |
54-59 months | 54 | 4.9 |
60+ months | 60 | 5.5 |
A 20% income tax is withheld from the lump-sum payment. However, non-Japanese residents can apply for a tax refund to recover this amount.
